Accommodation for Visiting Monastics

Accommodation for Visiting Monastics

Tomorrow, Ayya Santacari’s Bhikkhuni teacher will arrive to spend a few days with her at Dakkhina Dhammatthala. This visit is primarily for Ayya Santacari’s training in preparation for her higher ordination next month. The BSSA is very happy to support Ayya in her ongoing training and we are very happy that she has the precious opportunity to undertake higher ordination.

the canvas kuti for temporary accommodation.

The house at Dakkhina Dhammatthala has only two bedrooms and initially we thought to borrow or hire a caravan for temporary accommodation for this 5 day visit. However the driveway proved to be too narrow to easily accept a caravan, so a few of us got together and built a tent platform and put up a tent that had been given to Ayya earlier this year, and covered it with a tarpaulin for extra protection. Ayya has elected to stay in the “canvas kuti” and her honoured teacher will stay in the house.

In the longer term the BSSA is developing a regular program of Dhamma talks and retreats in English and we intend to invite monastic Dhamma teachers on a regular basis to contribute to delivering this program.  Naturally Ayya Santacari as our resident monastic will continue to provide regular teachings as well as also wanting to benefit herself from visits from senior teachers. Ayya will deliver our first program of the newly revitalised association: a Daylong Retreat this October 1st.  Watch this site for upcoming news of the regular program currently in planning.

To provide accommodation for visiting monastics in the future, we would like to raise funds to build a little wooden kuti as a  long term solution. Below is a photo composition below showing approximately what it would look like. We intend to try crowd funding but in the mean time, if you would like to contribute to the purchase of the kuti that will look something like the picture below, you can make a donation via bank transfer.
