excess equipment shipment from old RAH to Sri Lanka

Asanka, the Hospital Services council representative sent this letter of thanks for the  help given by our Bhikkhuni Santacari, the people at Health SA and all the wonderful Sri Lankan people to put together a shipment of excess equipment from the old RAH for the Colombo Hospital.

With your support, we managed to successfully send invaluable medical equipment and other goods to Sri Lanka in a 40ft container. I am proud to say that we were able to send more than 50 electric beds, bio-medical equipment (a ventilator machine etc), walkers, drip stands, trolleys, bed overlays, sanitary products and lots of other goods (please see the attached photos). The estimate worth of the whole consignment is around Rs. 6 million.

The container was sealed yesterday, fittingly by Ven. Santacārī Bhikkhunī, who initiated this whole process back in 2016 and guided me successfully to commence the project. Therefore, my utmost gratitude to her on behalf of our community and the destitute patients in Sri Lanka.

I would also extend my gratitude to Ven. Udagabbala Sumedha Thero and Ven. K. Mahindasara Thero from the Adelaide Sri Lanka Buddhist Vihara (ASLBV) for their blessings and encouragement given to this project as well as the continuous support for the work carried out by the Hospital Services Council (HSC) of Sri Lanka. I would also thank the committee of ASLBV for their support in coordinating the delivery of the goods and communicating our message to the broader community. I would like to specially mention its president, Hiran Senarathne, for being a pillar in this successful endeavour and his fantastic support given throughout the project.

A big thank you to all the donors, both financially and by goods, for their generosity. And also, a sincere heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and families who came last Saturday to load the container. It was an enormous effort but it was a resounding success. The Rotarians were surprised that we could fill up the container as we did in a single day, especially coming from a small country with a relatively small community. But we showed them that what we lacked from numbers, we compensated more than enough with dedication, team work and efficacy. You made our whole community proud, so thank you again for successfully completing such a mammoth task in the given timeframe.

The approximate time of arrival of the container in Colombo is the end of March, 2018.

Regardless to say that without all of your support this project would not have been possible. Your contributions will definitely have a positive impact on the hard life of the poor patients. My appreciation again to all of you on behalf of the HSC of Sri Lanka. May this meritorious deed bless you with good health and longevity!

Yours sincerely,
Asanka Nuwanpriya
